The main goals of this project are to reduce the deforestation caused by the local consuming and to help to mitigate the climate change effects.
In July, we began the project: Training to Communitarian Instructors to prepare them as Biocultural Educators to understand and to act against deforestation and climate change.
We are bringing training to 61 ódami, rarámuri, and mestizo youngsters, who currently are educative instructors in 61 ranches. By means of teaching and reflection, are inviting the children and their parents to reduce the deforestation caused by wood consumption for domestic use.
The subjects approached are related to deforestation in the Sierra Tarahumara: the importance of ecological balance, the local and global causes and effects of deforestation, the techniques to prevent it, and others.
This activities are supported by the program
Vida Silvestre sin Fronteras and the Consejo Nacional de Fomento Educativo, CONAFE (Wildlife without Borders and the National Council for Educational Promotion).
The workshops will conclude in January at Baborigame, Guadalupe y Calvo municipality, Chihuahua, Mexico. In this site, we will inform you about the results.
